Shine Through

Everybody is a star
I can feel it when you shine on me
I love you for who you are
Not the one you feel, you need to be

(The Pointer Sisters)

Following twenty years of working in the LGBT community, under the banner of ‘Joel Korn Counselling’ I am pleased to announce the launch of my new venture: ‘Shine Through’.

Shine Through is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and for those Questioning their Gender or Sexuality (LGBTQ+), this Well-Being Support Group is open to anyone aged 18+. This is brought to the London LGBTQ community in time for the LGBT History Month in February. I am bringing Shine Through to London during LGBT History Month in order to honour our history, but to also provide a space where you can change your everyday

Meets on 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month, 11am – 1.30pm.
Shine Through will meet on: 6th & 20th March 3rd and 17th April, and 1st and 15th May, 11am – 1.30pm.

Shine Through aims to bring you a place to talk about how you feel emotionally in a group. “What can I can expect to happen in a group?” I hear you ask. A group provides somewhere to build your confidence, build support networks and breakdown feelings of loneliness and isolation that in our 24-hour busy city may be something you experience on a daily basis. This is a safe place away from the bar, club and party scene. When I came out now two decades ago, what I did not realise was that our LGBTQ+ community had a history. One of the important and healing possibilities of this group is that it is a place where intergenerational conversations can happen.

At Shine Through each group will end with a sharing lunch, food is a great way of bringing communities together, a great way to explore our differences and similarities. Our communities come from many backgrounds and traditions, which for some may have been linked to ostracisation. ‘Shine Through’ together with the sharing lunch provides a great way to form a new relationship with our cultural heritage and celebrate our differences.

The group is offered on a sliding scale to make it accessible to all and subsidised through the income I make from one to one counselling I offer. I offer free places to those with no recourse to public funds such as asylum seekers, refugees or street homeless. Minimum commitment is to attend twice a month.

If you are interested in finding out more or attending the group, I ask you to make a telephone or skype appointment for a Well-Being Assessment.

Let your 2019 and future Shine Through… May I wish you a Happy LGBT History Month. I hope you will use it as an opportunity to explore not only our collective history but your individual history too. I look forward to hearing from you.
